Gyeonggi Pyeongtaek Port Corp. (GPPC) opened an inaugural ceremony on Jan 25, on 9th floor at Marine Center at Pyeongtaek Port, for Choi Hong-Chul, who took office as its 4th president and ceo. Newly appointed President Choi said in his inaugural speech: “I feel like having remarkable responsibilities at a time when Pyeongtaek Port should develop further as an international trading port which has recorded No.1 port across Korea in terms of car handled for exports-imports and has ranked No. 4 in Korea in handling containers. I will do my utmost for Pyeongtaek Port to excel with its sustained growth as the hub port of logistics at the Yellow Sea rim. So active cooperation and assistances from the related organizations, the port office and logistics players would be highly appreciated.”
“Since GPPC has endeavored to early develop the infrastructures in the complex area of Pyeongtaek Port, we would make our best efforts to help the efficient operation of its relevant facilities and to make the port most competitive in North East Asia in line with the main stream of localization,” President Choi emphasized.
President Choi proposed that his management goals are to prepare the surrounding to build self-reliant management frame, to participate in 2nd-phased state-initiated projects for the port’s complex, to contribute to regional economic revitalization through the port’s increased competitiveness, and to enhance the role-play of a local state-run corporation aimed at contribution of social entrepreneurship.
President Choi graduated from Kyeongbuk High School, majored in economics in Sungkyunkwan University and received a MA degree in public administration from Graduate School of Public Administration, Seoul National University. After he passed 21st Higher Civil Service Examination, he took his first public post in KMPA (Korea Maritime Port Administration) followed by other various official posts including Director of Autonomy System Dept in Ministry of Government Administration and Home Affairs (later renamed “Ministry of Public Administration and Security”), Director General in Environmental Affairs in Gyeonggi Provincial Government, Deputy Mayor for Siheung City, Ansan City and Seongnam City, Deputy governor I & II for Political Affairs in Gyeonggi Provincial Government, and President of Korea Ceramic Foundation.
