DSME successfully delivers a drillship worth KW 620b
Tuesday, October 31, 2017, 09:10:43 Paul Yoon ckyoon7@paran.com
DSME has successfully delivered a drillship ahead of the contracted delivery date, meeting this year’s delivery target for all of the offshore plant equipments as planned.

DSME unveiled on Oct. 30 that it has delivered a drillship valued for KW 620 billion to U.S.-based Transocean that had ordered it back in 2012. With this, DSME has successfully delivered all of the five offshore plant equipments which were scheduled for delivery this year.

The drillship delivered is a DSME-developed model coded DSME-12000 measuring 238m in length and 42m in width. Of the drillships built by DSME, this is the largest one capable of drilling down to 12km maximum at the deep sea of 3.6km depth.

Transocean is the world-biggest drillship owner and operator. It is DSME’s major customer that has ordered a total of 12 drillships at the yard from signing the first contract in 2006. In the depressed drilling market, Transocean has maintained a solid trust relationship with DSME, paying a big portion of contract money to the shipbuilder in advance in confidence of the its building technological skills of high standard and of its high productivity as well as placing continuous orders with the shipbuilder. Thus DSME has successfully delivered all of the 12 drillships to date.

A DSME official said, “Despite difficulties of a big loss from the offshore plant equipment business over the last two years, we have successfully delivered all of the five offshore plants as scheduled for delivery this year, and are expected to accelerate stabilization of our production and normalization of our management.”
