The volume of US-produced soybean, which aT (Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corp. annually imports through Incheon for the government’s granary, is growing.

Referring to the bidding held by aT last month for imports of 20,000mt non-GM soybeans with Incheon nominated as the importing port, IPA (Incheon Port Authority) said on Sept. 6 that it has been lately decided to import 10,000mt soybeans from U.S. through Incheon.

The above 10,000mt soybean adds up to a total of 16,000mt being imported this year through Incheon including the basis purchase of 6,000mt already imported by aT in the first half of this year. This year’s import volume is an increase in several folds from 2,000mt and 6,000mt soybean aT imported in 2015 and last year on extra spot basis.

According to IPA, aT made its latest decision to import edible soybeans through Incheon in consideration of Incheon as an important port for the government’s granary of emergency reserve, thanks to Hyundai MM that has made every effort for US-bound service from Incheon Newport, thanks to SNCT (Sunkwang New Container Terminal) for its cooperation and thanks to APQA (Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency)’s Jungbu Regional Office for its rapid quarantine administration.
