Wednesday, July 12, 2017, 17:53:08 Paul Yoon ckyoon7@paran.com
DSME has successfully delivered a drillship as planned during the ongoing drillship market depressed, giving a green light to hit its target in the offshore plant sector for this year.

DSME said on July 11 that it has delivered a drillship priced at 620b won to U.S.-based TransOcean since ordered in 2012.

This brings the total number of drillship delivered to TransOcean to three out of five scheduled for delivery within this year with two extra ships remaining due for delivery by upcoming Oct.

The drill ships delivered this time is DMSE-developed model, DSME-1200, measuring 238m in length and 42m in width. Of drill ships ever built by DSME, this is the largest one capable of drilling maximum 12km at deep sea of maximum draft 3.6km.

TransOcean, the world-largest drill ship player, is a DSME’s major customer that has ordered 12 drill ships since its first deal was inked in 2006 with the shipyard. In particular, TransOcean has displayed a solid relationship of confidence with DSME, making advance payment for the deals in reliance on the shipyard’s high technological capacity and productivity amid the drill ship market slumps. DSME has successfully delivered to date 11 drill ships to TransOcean including the one just delivered with the last one remaining to be delivered in upcoming Oct.

A DSME official said: “Despite some hardships in production of offshore plant equipments over the last two years, we have successfully delivered them in response to our customers’ confidence. We will honor the reputation of DSME’s high technological power by keeping delivery schedule for the remaining offshore plant equipments.”
