APL calls at BNCT
Tuesday, June 13, 2017, 18:11:16 Paul Yoon ckyoon7@paran.com
BNCT (Busan Newport Container Terminal) said that it has welcomed three APL’s maiden services provided to BNCT within one week in a row.

BNCT disclosed that it had received three maiden calls of GSX on May 31, EX1 Eastbound on June 3 and Ex1 Westbound on June 6 respectively marking the full migration of APL’s independent US flag services to BNCT in Busan with a monthly combined handling of about 20,000teu through the port.

GSX service (Guam Saipan Express) connects Guam and Saipan via Yokohama and Busan with EX1 (Eagle Express) East & Westbound connecting Naha, Qingdao, Shanghai and Busan with Los Angeles and Oakland.

Mr. John Elliot, BNCT President and CEO remarked: “We are confident that APL will enjoy our world-class service and unrivaled ability to secure a strong future of flexibility and growth for many years ahead. BNCT can still expand up to 1 million teu additional capacity in the future by putting extra equipment and yard blocks into service.”

BNCT has recently completed expansion in 2015, adding 700,000teu capacity and a 16,000teu empty storage area bringing its total annual handling capacity to 2.5m teu. Moreover, it has extra room to expand possibly up to 3.5m teu in the future. BNCT said that it is the only terminal able to construct additional capacity in Busan Newport until 2020.
