“Incheon Newport full opening preparation on track”
Wednesday, January 11, 2017, 20:25:09 Paul Yoon ckyoon7@paran.com
Into this year, Incheon Newport’s full opening preparation is on the right track. IPA (Incheon Port Authority) announced on Jan. 9 that the preparation works to inaugurate Incheon Newport Container Terminal (INCT) at a quay of 1.6km in length is gaining speed with yard cranes and pier cranes freshly installed.

According to IPA, SNCT (Shinkwang New Container Terminal) is now introducing extra 8 units of ARMGC (automated rail mounted gantry crane) capable of loading/unloading containers stacked with 6 tiers in 9 rows, with further 4 units coming at the end of this January at INCT. Once 8 units of ARMGC are in place at SNCT by the end of January, its total units will increase to 22, likely lifting up productivity at a high rate.

Another TOC (Terminal Operating Company) at INCT is HJIT (Hanjin Incheon Terminal) is going to introduce two units of RMQC (rail mounted quayside crane) capable of handling containers in 22 rows. In the first place, HJIT plans to install one unit of RMQC by the end of this January and one more unit of this during next February to lift up productivity at a far higher rate. If extra units added, HJIT will secure a total of 7 units of RMQC on top of the existing 5 units.

Two TOCs, SNCT and HJIT, opened 1st Phase Quay of 410m and 420m in length out of its total quay of 800m in June, 2015 and in March, 2016 respectively, and are operating them. In particular, SNCT fully completed construction of 2nd Phase Quay on Dec. 31 last year, planning to use the total quay of 800m in length upon finalizing installation of extra cranes. Once 2nd Phase crane installation is completed, HJIT will open its terminal by November this year.

The full opening of two terminals at Inchon Newport in the second half of this year is expected to grow container handling capacity reaching 2.10 million teu (1.05m teu each terminal) maximum on an annual basis, and is likely to enable the calling of mega containerships, driving the growth of container traffics at Incheon Port.
