Sun Kwang completes Newport Container Terminal-2
Monday, January 02, 2017, 18:32:44 Paul Yoon ckyoon7@paran.com
Opening an era to annually handle 3.0 million teu, Incheon Port has completed the construction of Sun Kwang Container Terminal (SNCT)-2.

IPA (Incheon Port Authority) said on last Dec. 31 that it has finalized the construction of SNCT-2. IPA and SNCT plan to open it within the first half of this year upon successful completion of ship’s trial berthing and testing operation, following the terminal completion on last Dec. 31.

In order to successfully complete the construction of SNCT-2 and operate it in time, IPA, Incheon Regional Office of Oceans and Fisheries, and SNCT have joined hands. SNCT partially opened SNCT-1 in June 2015 with the pier of 410m long of its total 800m in length and kicked off in Sept. 2015 Phase-2 construction of the remaining pier length 390m. The lower part of the project was undertaken by IPA and the upper part of construction to install facilities was carried out directly by SNCT as the operator.

With the new pier reaching 800m in length at SNCT completed at Incheon Newport, along with the container yard, SNCT has a devoted container terminal and berth capable of accommodating a containership up to 12,000teu class. In particular, SNCT-2 is expected to build up its unique option system with facilities and achieve productivity matchable with those of overseas advanced ports in a move to maximize its productivity. SNCT-2 annually handles 1.05m teu.
