Incheon Port builds LNG-fueled PR ship "Econuri"
Thursday, July 19, 2012, 08:34:33 Paul Yoon ckyoon7@paran.com
PR ship now under construction for Incheon Port by Incheon Port Authority (IPA) is decided to be named “Econuri.” IPA invited a public contest for naming the eco-friendly boat for three weeks from June 18 through July 6 and announced the final results of the contest, introducing the best prize-winner of naming “Econuri” along with other prize-winners.

The best price-winning name of “Econuri” suggested by Hwang Sun-lye was finally selected. “Eco” represents an eco-friendly image and “Nuri” stands for sea and the world as well as for “enjoy,” so “Econuri” has the combined meanings of these three meanings namely “Enjoy the eco-friendly sea and world.” The PR ship to be delivered to IPA by the end of this year will be named “Econuri.”

500 people entered the public contest with 934 names which are computed to have been submitted about 1.9 names on average per contestant. Besides the best-prize winning of “Econuri,” the 5 second-prize winners for names including “Incheon Haemir,” and the next 20 runner-up winners for names including “Cheonghaelyong” were selected.

The best contestant will be awarded with KW 500,000 in cash together with a small souvenir. Each second-prize winner will be paid KW 200,000 in cash with a souvenir and every runner-up will be paid KW 50,000 in cash with a souvenir later in July respectively.

The PR boat for Incheon Port now under construction is the first LNG-fueled ship in Asia. LNG-fueled vessel emits far less air-pollutants than diesel-fueled ship. LNG-fueled ship can reduce emission of SOX and NOx by more than 90% and greenhouse gas by 23%. The boat construction made 35% progress now and is expected to be delivered at the end of upcoming December this year and to be fully deployed for Incheon Port from the beginning of next year. The ship measures 35m in length and 8.4m in width and weighs 185gt, accommodating about 50 people.
