“MLTM on hunt for Korea’s DHL”
Thursday, February 16, 2012, 14:34:26 Paul Yoon ckyoon7@paran.com
The Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs (MLTM) posted a notification dated Feb. 15 for selection of candidates eligible for nurture of logistics enterprises under the government scheme, stating that it will receive application files from logistics players in Korea. MLTM enacted “Regulations on Selection and Nurture for Global Logistics Enterprises” (RSNGLE) under notification dated Dec. 21 last year. The ministry is gearing up from Feb. 15 to select the eligible candidates filed for the said nurture in compliance with the standards of detailed screening and evaluation.

The qualification of an applicant firm is that the applicant should hold a license for integrated logistics enterprise under RSNGLE, it should have earned gross income from overseas trade representing over 10% of its total sales in the previous year, and should have its overseas operation graded “outstanding,” and its gross earning should be calculated based on overseas cross-trading logistics excluding domestic operation for exports and imports.

The applicant’s business plan for overseas operation is to be evaluated on 14 items covering its outstanding performance of overseas logistics model combined with its strong will toward overseas play and its global growth potential. MLTM’s screening committee will ascertain the applicant’s grade through its final evaluation.

The application should be filed with Center for Logistics Policy & Certification Center, Korea Transport Institute, together with application documents including business plan not later than Mar. 15 this year (in person or by mail). The screening process will include application document examination, interview on site-survey and others, taking 90 days (Mar. 16 to Jun. 13). The outcome of screening eligible applicants will be unveiled on or after Apr. 25 at the earliest.

A MLTM official said, “It would be appreciated if those logistics enterprises interested in expanding their operation into overseas market participate in the government-initiated nurture program for Korea’s global logistics business.”
